Anthropic's Claude AI Chatbot Now Integrates with Google Workspace for Smarter Responses

Anthropic announced its AI chatbot Claude is now integrating with Google Workspace, enabling it to access information from Gmail, Google Calendar and Google Docs.
The integration, which is currently in beta, is being made available to subscribers to Anthropic’s Max, Team, Enterprise and Pro plans. For those with multi-user accounts, administrators will need to enable the integration.
Anthropic is hoping the integration will enable Claude to get better at providing personalised responses without users needing to upload files or create detailed prompts. It’s a similar goal to that of Google DeepMind with its Gemini chatbot and OpenAI with ChatGPT.
In this instance, Anthropic is hoping to help users manage their professional and personal commitments. For instance, it could help a parent by scanning their emails and calendar events for important commitments. It could also help them search for relevant community events and weather forecasts.
While Claude will provide in-line citations for the Workspace content it references, it won’t be able to schedule events or send emails. That raises some security concerns about the sensitive information Claude will have access to.
Elsewhere, Anthropic announced a new Claude Research feature that enables the chatbot to conduct multiple web searches in order to generate comprehensive answers quickly. That feature is available to Max, Team and Enterprise subscribers in the U.S., Japan and Brazil.
Again, this feature is designed to complement the Google integration, enabling users to analyse information from multiple sources. The company is looking to improve the utility of Claude as it competes with other AI platforms. While user numbers are growing fast, they’re still only at 3.3 million compared to ChatGPT’s much larger user base.
