Google launches Firebase Studio, an AI-powered IDE for quick app development

Google has quietly launched Firebase Studio, a cloud-based AI-powered integrated development environment that helps users build full-fledged apps with just a few prompts.
The launch comes as the “vibe coding” trend has taken off, with Cursor AI leading the charge. The $10 billion company enables users to create apps and websites without any prior programming knowledge.
Firebase Studio is likely to go up against vibe coding offerings from OpenAI and Claude, particularly with the latter’s Gemini product. However, it fills a gap in the market and is likely to be welcomed by developers looking to save time on prototyping.
According to documents seen by BleepingComputer, Firebase Studio supports a range of programming languages and frameworks, including:
• React
• Next.js
• Angular
• Vue.js
• Flutter
• Android
• Node.js
• Java
• Python Flask
The report says users can simply describe their app idea in natural language and/or images, enabling the AI to prototype them in mere seconds.
In tests, the reviewer was able to create a working website prototype by simply describing the idea he had in mind. The cloud-based IDE means users can modify and enhance the underlying code without having to leave the environment or fire up Visual Studio or another IDE.
Those interested in trying Firebase Studio can do so now, although you’ll need a Gemini API key to get started.
