YouTube’s new AI tool lets creators generate copyright-free instrumental tracks for their videos

YouTube is launching a new AI tool that’ll enable creators to generate instrumental tracks for their videos, without the risk of copyright infringement.
The so-called Music assistant, revealed in a TechCrunch report, is the latest addition to YouTube’s Creator Music suite of tools that help creators find and license songs for their videos.
In a video posted to the Creator Insider channel, the feature was demonstrated by Lauren, who said it’ll be available to select users gradually. It’s located in the Creator Music beta section.
The demonstrator was able to input a prompt like “give me uplifting and motivational music for a workout montage.” From this, several tracks were generated that could be reviewed and downloaded for use in video editing.
The tool joins a plethora of existing AI music-generating options. Stability AI recently revealed a diffusion model that creates audio from prompts, while Meta has open-source AudioCraft and MusicGen models that also create audio based on user prompts.
YouTube has also been exploring AI music in other formats. It launched a music remixer that enables creators to restyle popular songs to fit their Shorts better. There’s also the Dream Track feature that enables users to hum a melody, which is then turned into a track in the style of their favourite artists. That uses technology from Google’s DeepMind.
